Portia Barnblatt, LAc, DAOM
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
Dr. Portia Barnblatt holds masters and doctoral degrees in Traditional Chinese Medicine and offers expertise in acupuncture and herbal medicine to patients at My Doctor Medical Group, complementing and integrating with conventional medical treatment to provide superior results. Dr. Barnblatt works closely with our medical doctors and has special interests in women’s health, stroke recovery, addiction treatment and pain management.
Qualifications, Training & Associations
Portia Chan Barnblatt, DAOM, LAc earned her master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM) in San Francisco in 1996.
In 1997 she completed a post-graduate internship at the Yue Yang TCM Hospital in Shanghai. In 1998 she completed a year long acupuncture orthopedic program taught by Dr. Fred Lerner, DC and had extensive training in Auricular Acupuncture with Dr. Li-Chun Huang, and Scalp Acupuncture with Dr. Ming Qin Zhu.
In the mid-2000s she practiced as a research acupuncturist for post-open heart surgery patients at UCSF.
More recently Dr. Barnblatt completed a doctoral program in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at ACTCM in 2011, focusing on pain management and women’s health.
Dr. Barnblatt and spent a year at Shanghai Traditional Chinese Medicine University where she practiced privately and published two books on Chinese Medicine in Chinese and English for use in TCM training programs. She is also currently the chief acupuncture doctor at East-West Health Center of Chinese Hospital in San Francisco. She is fluent in Chinese and English, with working knowledge of French.
Dr. Barnblatt provides acupuncture and other Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatments to our patients, both in our office and on house calls in downtown San Francisco, as part of our integrative medicine program.
